A Death in Gitmo

We already knew there were plenty of people imprisoned in Gitmo that were not enemy combatants or terrorists. But its not just random goatherders that caught up in this Kafka-esque nightmare that the rabid 30% are so in love with. Hilzoy has a story of a guy who was regarded as a war hero by the Afghan government for standing up to both the Russians and the Taleban. He died of cancer behind bars December 30.

Now, the story is a bit more complex than just "we imprisoned a good guy." I don't know much about this guy, but my guess he's just a warlord like many of those who our administration seems to believe are allies of ours, and like many of those who our administration seems to believe are enemies are ours. But it does highlight once more how arbitrarily the completely arbitrary and ignorant way this administration has been running even one of its signature issues.
